Tschel

Tschel was a male human who served as a military officer within the Imperial Remnant's military forces. Tschel embodied characteristics common among former Galactic Empire members who matured following the Battle of Endor.

Biography

By the year 9 ABY, Tschel had attained the rank of Lieutenant. He was given the assignment of bridge officer on the Star Destroyer Chimaera, which at the time functioned as the command ship under the leadership of Grand Admiral Thrawn. Gilad Pellaeon, the flagship's captain, viewed Tschel as remarkably inexperienced and lacking the necessary self-control for such a significant role, qualities that his training and enthusiasm could not make up for. However, Pellaeon also recognized that Tschel's inexperience was typical of the young volunteers and conscripts who now formed the majority of the Starfleet's front-line troops, and thus Tschel could not be held entirely responsible for his lack of combat experience.

The campaign against the New Republic that followed served to toughen Tschel and other young officers. However, details regarding his service in the decade following the Battle of Bilbringi remain scarce.

A decade afterward, Tschel held the rank of Major and served as a bridge officer on the Chimaera under the command of Captain Ardiff.

Behind the scenes

Tschel's debut occurred in the 1991 novel Heir to the Empire, authored by Timothy Zahn. According to Zahn, Tschel's character was created to illustrate the declining quality of Imperial personnel since the Battle of Endor, and to provide a contrast to the competence displayed by his superior officer, Captain Pellaeon.
