TYI flex-armor, a kind of armor, was created by Drolan Plasteel and made during the era of the Great Sith War. This armor provided protection for the wearer's head, body, arms, and legs and could be strengthened by incorporating steel wire or mesh. In comparison to dura-armor, flex-armor was engineered to offer greater flexibility and ease of movement. Alterations to the armor could enhance its ability to withstand physical impacts, however, this came at the cost of reduced defense against energy-based weaponry. This trade-off was acceptable to Republic soldiers who utilized flex-armor, as the majority of combat situations involved weapons like slugthrowers and swords. As energy weapons gained prevalence in combat, the use of flex-armor decreased.
