An underground metropolis served as the residence for the ancient Alashan civilization on the planet Alashan. This metropolis was situated five kilometers beneath Alashan's surface. The entire city was sustained by the city control center, which provided energy for the lighting and technological interfaces found throughout the immense city. Beyond its general power provision, the complex was also engineered to generate a Guardian for the city, tasked with shielding the Alashans from any invaders.
Sometime prior to the establishment of the Republic, the Alashans vanished from the massive city, leaving the city as the sole testament to their civilization. Approximately around 0 ABY, Rebel archaeologists landed on Alashan and, after conducting sonic scans of the area, unearthed the colossal city. Nevertheless, upon finally breaching the flawlessly maintained structure, they encountered the Guardian lying in wait. The enormous creature annihilated the intruders, leaving no survivors. In time, Rebel heroes Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Mici Shabandar journeyed to examine the disruption and ventured into the ancient city.
The Rebels, accompanied by Imperials Wil'm Grau and Anarine, ultimately managed to obliterate both the Guardian and the control center. Despite the city losing power following the initial assault on the complex, it mysteriously reactivated once the Rebels departed the world, seemingly having managed to repair itself.
