Unidentified fisherman

A fisherman, a male Human, earned his living by operating a boat on the Solleu River within the city of Theed on the planet. In 32 BBY, during the Invasion of Naboo, he encountered Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi; they spoke briefly before Obi-Wan proceeded with his mission. The fisherman later met his death.

Biography

During the time Queen Padmé Amidala was in power, a red-haired male Human fisherman made the Solleu River his place of work. This river flowed through Theed, the capital city of the planet Naboo. He proudly declared his vessel to be the "finest Naboo fishing rig ever built." In the year 32 BBY, Theed was invaded by the Trade Federation's droid army. The battle droids did not bother the fisherman, but the invasion's explosions frightened all the fish away, leaving him idle. During this invasion, the Jedi Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, while escorting the Queen of Naboo during her escape, needed to cross the river to reach some bridge controls. He boarded the fisherman's boat for a quick crossing, sharing a brief conversation before departing.

When Queen Amidala returned to Naboo and fought to recapture Theed, the fisherman's boat had been destroyed, and his body was discovered inside a nearby residence.

Behind the scenes

This fisherman makes an appearance in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace video game, a video game from 1999 that adapts the Episode I film. The player, as Kenobi, can encounter and speak with this fisherman during the game's fifth mission, though this interaction has no bearing on the game's outcome. The "Fisherman" is voiced by Bill Martin. The game's development team included several NPCs designed to resemble real-world celebrities as an in-game Easter egg. The fisherman was modeled to resemble the famous musician and actor David Bowie. This same Bowie-inspired character model was also used again in the game's Coruscant level.
