The plant originated from Gibbela, a rather unsophisticated agricultural planet found in the Outer Rim's Atrivis sector; Gibbela is also known as a primitive world. The plant exhibited a singular stalk that grew a yellow crop in a cylindrical, spiraling form, adorned with white tufts at its apex. Overlapping, sharp, dark green leaves gave support to the crop. The native sentient inhabitants of Gibbela, known as the Dazouri, cultivated these plants in circular patterns, with groves of two or three fruit trees at the center. Scarecrows protected these gardens, and hoes were used for their upkeep.
During the time of the Galactic Empire, Imperial forces scouted Gibbela as a potential colony site. Initial assessments suggested minimal resistance from the local population. Subsequently, a small Imperial force landed on the world, with their Sentinel-class landing craft inadvertently destroying several crop and fruit gardens. A local farmer responded by killing the Imperial task force, later repurposing some of their equipment for farming activities.
Ken Lizzl was the creator of this crop plant for the two-page comic titled "The Value of Proper Intelligence to Any Successful Military Campaign is Not to Be Underestimated." Lucas Marangon provided the illustrations, and it was published in Star Wars Tales 19 on May 14, 2004. For the Star Wars Tales series, spanning from volumes one to twenty, plausible narratives were considered S-canon unless a non-Tales source made reference to them. Should this occur, the story's status would be elevated to C-canon. Because The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia included an entry about the events of this comic, the events were elevated to C-canon.
