Unidentified Imperial captain (asteroid victim)

A captain, who was a Human male, served the Imperial Navy as the commanding officer of an Imperial II-class Star Destroyer following the Battle of Hoth in 3 ABY. While the Imperial forces were searching for the Rebel freighter named the Millennium Falcon within the Hoth asteroid field, the Captain manifested as a holographic projection during a meeting that included twenty Imperial battleship commanders, all involved in the search. The conference was being led by the Dark Lord Darth Vader; however, as it continued, the bridge tower of the Captain's Star Destroyer was struck by a large asteroid, which led to the ship's destruction and the death of the captain.

Biography

In the year 3 ABY, a light-skinned Human male Imperial captain was in command of one of the Imperial II-class Star Destroyers that were part of the search operation for Han Solo's YT-1300 light freighter, known as the Millennium Falcon, after the Battle of Hoth. Solo, accompanied by Princess Leia Organa, his Wookiee co-pilot Chewbacca, and the protocol droid C-3PO, had escaped the Rebels' Echo Base on Hoth. Due to a malfunction in their hyperdrive, they were compelled to take refuge among the numerous asteroids within the Hoth asteroid field to avoid capture by the Imperial Death Squadron.

Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith, sought to capture the crew of the Millennium Falcon so that he could use them as a means to lure his son, Luke Skywalker. To locate the Falcon, Vader directed Death Squadron into the asteroid field, which resulted in significant losses for many Star Destroyers due to the constant barrage of asteroids.

This captain died when his Star Destroyer was obliterated in an asteroid collision.

This captain's holographic image was present during a conference with twenty other battleship fleet commanders on the Executor, the Star Dreadnought serving as Vader's flagship, where they discussed the whereabouts of the Millennium Falcon. During this meeting, a large asteroid struck the bridge tower of the captain's Star Destroyer. This collision caused his death and the destruction of his ship, which was seen as the captain's holographic image abruptly disappeared.

Equipment

During his service in 3 ABY, the captain wore the standard Imperial officer's uniform while on his Star Destroyer.

Behind the scenes

The first appearance of this unnamed Star Destroyer captain was in the 1980 novelization of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. In the movie, Jim Veilleux, an Effects Cameraman, played the role of the officer, though he was not credited. His appearance is brief, seen only in holographic form.
