A Gungan diplomat of the male persuasion held a formal role within the governing body of the New Republic. This diplomat, an older Gungan belonging to the Otolla subspecies, was well-regarded for his knowledge of animals. He was fond of bringing fauna from his homeworld of Naboo to Coruscant, the Republic's capital.
Sometime following the foundation of the New Republic in 4 ABY, a male Gungan hailing from the planet Naboo was designated to an ambassadorial position within the nascent administration. This individual was a member of the slender Otolla subspecies of Gungan, distinguished from the Ankura by their extended craniums and their eyestalks that could be retracted.
During his professional duties, he would frequently journey to the shining planet Coruscant, the seat of the New Republic, accompanied by his two animal companions: a drooling blarth kept on a leash and an igitz contained within a vivarium resembling a typical Gungan hydrostatic bubble. At one point during his service, the Gungan diplomat took part in a procession where galactic ambassadors paraded with their cherished pets. The renowned zoologist Lyrre T'enna documented this event in the published version of her field guide.
The diplomat, who possessed orange skin, was already advanced in years during his time with the New Republic, evidenced by the prominent facial tendrils common among older Gungans. The diplomat relished the company of domesticated animals, including blarths, a species of plump and gentle creatures that Gungans had kept as pets for many centuries. His dedication to wildlife was also perceived as a symbol of civic virtue among the political elite of Coruscant.
He was attired in the lengthy robes adorned with Otoh swirls and the leather cowl associated with the Reps, who were members of the Gungan High Council of Otoh Gunga, the primary city of the Gungans on Naboo.
The unnamed Gungan diplomat appeared in The Wildlife of Star Wars: A Field Guide, a reference work released in 2001 and co-authored by Terryl Whitlatch and Bob Carrau. Whitlatch also provided the illustrations for the guide, repurposing numerous conceptual sketches initially created for the 1999 prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.
