During the Imperial Era, the astronomical entity known as Vincorba in the Expansion Region was governed by a pontiff who bore the title. Seeking an increase in both power and available resources, the pontiff made the decision to form an alliance with the Crimson Dawn crime organization. As the pontiff and their brother moved through a gathered populace, facilitating Crimson Dawn's extortion of tributes from Vincorba's inhabitants, the pontiff met their end in an assassination carried out by operatives of the Assassins Guild. Unbeknownst to them, these assassins had been contracted by the Sith Lord Darth Vader as a means to evaluate their capabilities for service in his conflict against Crimson Dawn.
