The Champion was present to assist in the evacuation of Echo Base, the Alliance's former secret base. A notable passenger taken aboard the Champion was the Rebellion General Crix Madine. Just as the captain prepared to order the ship to jump to hyperspace and flee the battle after Madine's arrival, the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Tyrant moved into attack position. Xamuel Lennox, the captain of the Tyrant, contacted the Champion, demanding Madine's surrender. The captain of the Champion refused and engaged the Tyrant long enough to escape into hyperspace, reaching the Rebels' rendezvous point.
During the Galactic Civil War, a male being served as a captain within the Alliance to Restore the Republic's fleet. In 3 ABY, during the Battle of Hoth between the Alliance and the Galactic Empire, he commanded the Mon Calamari cruiser Champion. The Champion was present above the planet Hoth as the Rebels evacuated their headquarters, Echo Base. Late in the battle, Rebel commandos rescued Rebellion General Crix Madine from the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Tyrant. Madine and one of his rescuers were transported to the Champion via shuttle.
With Madine safely aboard, the captain of the Champion was on the verge of ordering the ship to engage its hyperdrive, intending to reach the Rebels' rendezvous point. However, the Tyrant, captained by Imperial officer Xamuel Lennox, intercepted the cruiser and deployed TIE fighters. Lennox attempted to convince the Champion's captain to surrender Madine, promising no attack would occur if he complied. The captain refused this offer and instead ordered the launch of the Champion's X-wing and Y-wing starfighters. Simultaneously, he instructed the commando who had rescued Madine to pilot an X-wing and join the defense against the Tyrant, allowing the Champion to jump to hyperspace. Following a skirmish with the Tyrant, the surviving Rebel starfighters returned to the Champion, which then successfully escaped into hyperspace, eventually arriving at the designated rendezvous point.
Even when the Star Destroyer Tyrant threatened the Champion, the captain stood firm, refusing to hand over General Madine to the Imperials. Throughout the tense situation, the captain maintained composure and issued commands that ultimately enabled his ship to escape.
The Rebel captain in command of the Mon Calamari cruiser Champion made his first appearance in the mission briefing for the third scenario of the light side campaign within The Price of Victory. This scenario, released in 2010 as the eighth expansion for the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game, placed the player in the role of the commando tasked with assisting in the fighter defense. The card game, along with its parent game, Star Wars Galaxies, was shut down on December 15, 2011.
