Haven, a predetermined meeting place for the Rebel Alliance, was situated far beyond the Outer Rim Territories within the Galactic Rim. This location served as the Alliance Fleet's rallying point following their defeat at the Battle of Hoth in 3 ABY. Its coordinates were approximately 2.427 by 3.886 by 673.52 above the galactic plane.
From 2 ABY to 3 ABY, while the Rebellion's clandestine headquarters functioned on the planet Hoth at Echo Base, a significant portion of the Rebellion's command structure, including High Command, was based there. The Battle of Hoth forced all Alliance personnel to evacuate the planet due to the incoming Imperial forces. As per the established protocols created by General Carlist Rieekan, the survivors regrouped at a secret rendezvous point, a pre-arranged location beyond the galaxy where the Empire would be unable to locate them. However, their rendezvous point was almost exposed after an Imperial Strike Cruiser discovered them, leading the Alliance Fleet to change course in case the destroyed Strike Cruiser had transmitted the fleet's location to the Empire.
The Rebels designated this point as "Haven," and it was situated beyond the Galactic Rim, far above the galactic plane and at a significant distance from any stars. Being beyond the galaxy's gravity well, reaching it was a treacherous undertaking. It is likely that many of the Rebel ships escaping from Hoth may not have been able to complete the journey. The Rebellion likely suffered additional losses while trying to reach this location.
While searching for the crew of the Millennium Falcon, the bounty hunters Zuckuss and 4-LOM theorized that Han Solo would attempt to reach the rendezvous point, considering he was transporting essential Rebel personnel. Through his intuitive meditation, Zuckuss pinpointed the rendezvous point at coordinates 2.427 by 3.886 by 673.52 above the galactic plane, a journey of approximately two standard days from the Hoth system. The actual rendezvous point was located two degrees away from these coordinates.
At Haven, High Command, a portion of the Rebel fleet, and numerous surviving personnel from Hoth regrouped to continue their fight against the Empire. The majority of the fleet, however, had been ordered away from Hoth during the Rebels' occupation, following a tactical doctrine conceived by Gial Ackbar, Supreme Commander of the Alliance Fleet. High Command and the Rebel fleet were to be kept separate to prevent the Imperial Navy from discovering and destroying them in a single strike. The Rebellion determined that it could endure the loss of either High Command or its fleet, but not both simultaneously.
