Unidentified script (Star Wars '76)

A system of writing was commonly seen throughout the era of the Old Republic, and its usage persisted into the time of the Galactic Empire. It seems to be comprised of inverted characters from the Aurebesh alphabet, alongside other symbols visually similar to Aurebesh.

Instances of Use

This writing system was frequently employed for displaying data on compact, portable electronic devices. For example, it was used to present targeting data on both Zam Wesell's electro-goggles and the optics of her sniper rifle.

Furthermore, it was visible on the display panels inside the Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor flown by the renowned Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The ARC-170 starfighter responsible for the destruction of Plo Koon's Delta-7 starfighter featured this script on its displays during the execution of Order 66.

Across Vos Gesal Street and throughout the larger Uscru Entertainment District on Coruscant, information was broadcast using this script on public display screens.

During the Clone Wars, the readouts in Palpatine's personal office made use of this script. Palpatine was reviewing this data when Anakin Skywalker arrived to inform him that General Obi-Wan Kenobi was preparing to engage General Grievous in combat.

Behind the Production

This script, lacking a designated name within the in-universe lore, is a writing system within the fictional world, further expanded upon by Philip Metschan. It draws inspiration from a typeface originally created by Joe Johnston for the Original trilogy. Despite Metschan's assertion that "The actual font set hadn't been used since the first Star Wars," it is absent from the final cut of that film. Its only appearances on screen in the Original Trilogy are in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, where it appears on a variety of screens aboard the Death Star II and Star Destroyers, as well as in the shield generator bunker on the forest moon. Metschan's iteration of this typeface is prominently featured throughout Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.

Fans may find it challenging to translate this font, as Metschan only established official versions for the letters A through U.

The script can also be observed on the cockpit displays of Obi Wan's Jedi Starfighter and on the scope of Zam Wesell's KiSteer 1284 projectile rifle in Attack of the Clones.
