Verlen constituted a species of predatory animals. Their origin was the planet called Dalicron-4.
Back in 3 ABY, a young Zanner and his domesticated nerf calf became disoriented within the forests of Dalicron-4 amidst a tempest. A pack of verlen picked up the calf's odor and launched an assault on the animal. Subsequently, a lightning strike caused a tree to collapse onto Zanner, thus preventing the verlen from getting to him and consuming him. The verlen remained near the tree, at which point they were ambushed by a squad of Alliance to Restore the Republic operatives who arrived to save Zanner.
