Dalicron-4

Dalicron-4, also known as simply Dalicron, was a secluded and relatively obscure planet situated far away in the Outer Rim Territories. Despite its diverse and thriving ecosystem, the world was inhabited by a small population of no more than 1,000 individuals, who were the descendants of colonists originating from the Galactic Republic. These people had established and maintained an agrarian society that functioned through the exchange of goods and services. The inhabitants of Dalicron-4 were generally wary and distrustful of individuals from outside their community. The largest population center was Dalia, a settlement with a population of approximately 100 residents. The planet was notorious for its unpredictable and violent weather conditions. Devastating storms routinely swept across the landscape, causing widespread destruction.

The Force has a deep-rooted history with Dalicron-4. Almost a thousand years before the Battle of Yavin, a Jedi by the name of Duumas discovered a prophecy concerning a "Child of Light," who would be born with a special connection to the Force: while the child himself would be unable to wield the Force, others could channel it through him, granting them nearly limitless power. To create a safe haven where the child could be raised without the influence of the Force, Duumas transferred his spirit into a tree on Dalicron-4, establishing a zone where the Force was ineffective. Centuries later, a boy named Caeleb was born with the abilities that Duumas had predicted. His parents, who had foreseen Dalicron-4 in a vision, brought him to the planet to live under the protection of Duumas's tree. In 3 ABY, a bounty hunter arrived seeking the boy, prompting the family to flee the world with a group of operatives from the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

Description

Dalicron-4 was a terrestrial planet located within the Dalicron system, which was part of the Dalicron sector, situated deep within the Outer Rim Territories. Its location was remote, far from any major hyperlanes; a journey from Kwenn Space Station to the planet required six days in hyperspace. The world was largely unknown in other parts of the galaxy; in fact, navigation computers typically only provided the planet's coordinates after extensive database searches. The planet was absent from many navigation charts.

From space, the planet presented a striking appearance, with a vibrant mix of blue and green. Land covered 60% of its surface, while the remaining 40% consisted of lakes, rivers, and seas. The climate was temperate, ranging from hot, equatorial regions to extremely cold, polar areas. The soil was exceptionally fertile, and the majority of the land was covered in lush vegetation: prairies and forests featuring trees reaching heights of up to 30 meters.

The planet was frequently struck by massive thunderstorms. These intense weather systems often stretched 130 km from one side to the other, with some reaching a diameter of 320 km. Winds could exceed 150 km/hr, and tornadoes commonly formed within them. The inhabitants of the world had little understanding of the storms' origins; they seemed to occur randomly and caused immense destruction. The only recourse for the inhabitants was to secure their buildings and wait out the storms (venturing outside was almost certain death, as visibility was near zero and they became easy targets for Dalicron-4's carnivorous creatures). Operating spacecraft was a hazardous undertaking, as frequent lightning strikes overwhelmed sensors and disrupted viewport polarization systems, while powerful winds shifted unpredictably and battered the spacecraft's hull. The storms could last anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.

History

Almost a millennium before the Battle of Yavin, a Jedi Master named Duumas discovered a prophecy that predicted the arrival of a "Child of Light" on Dalicron-4, a boy who would possess the ability to amplify the Force abilities of those around him. Fearing that the child might fall into the hands of an evil Force user, the Jedi transferred his spirit into a tree on the planet, sacrificing his physical body and his ability to use the Force. This act created a 50-meter zone where the Force appeared to be absent, providing a sanctuary for the Child of Light.

Around 800 BBY, a group of individuals from the Inner Rim grew weary of their hectic lives as members of the Galactic Republic. Led by a being named Dalia, they journeyed to Dalicron-4 and established the town of Dalia, named in honor of their leader. Other settlers followed, but the world's population remained relatively small. By 3 ABY, Dalicron-4 was home to only about 1,000 sentients.

During the rise of the Empire, two Force-sensitive humans had a child whom they named Caeleb. They recognized that the boy had an extraordinary connection to the Force, so strong that they feared it might overwhelm him. One day, the boy's father experienced a vision of a safe haven where Caeleb could have a normal childhood: Dalicron-4. The family relocated to the remote world, along with Caeleb's older sister, Jhara, and his grandfather, Gel, a former Jedi and veteran of the Clone Wars. They settled near the Force-nullifying tree where the spirit of Jedi Master Duumas resided. There, Caeleb grew up unaware of the Force and its potential. The family became farmers.

By 3 ABY, stories of the exploits of Luke Skywalker had reached Dalicron-4. Gel, the old Jedi, sent a message to the Alliance to Restore the Republic, requesting that they send Skywalker to speak with him about the boy. Gel feared that Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire might discover Caeleb and exploit him. He hoped that the Alliance could escort him and his family away from the planet and into their protection.

Unable to spare Skywalker, the Alliance dispatched a team of agents. They located the boy and rescued him from a Whiphid bounty hunter named Tol Skaros, who had already killed the boy's parents and grandfather. Fearing the consequences of delay, they quickly fled the world.

In the meantime, an Imperial Nebulon-B frigate called the Harasser arrived in the system and imposed a quarantine on Dalicron-4. A Rebel scout named Thaum Rystra appeared, claiming to be a lieutenant in the Rebel Alliance. He ordered the Imperials to allow the ship to jump to hyperspace, and the Child of Light escaped the system.

Inhabitants

Dalicron was populated by approximately 1,000 inhabitants. Those residing in and around the town of Dalia primarily earned their living through agricultural pursuits. The population of Dalia was predominantly human, although smaller numbers of other species, such as Ho'Din, Ithorians, and Rodians, were also present.

The typical attire for a Dalian consisted of a dress for women and a tunic, trousers, and vest for men. The world received few visitors from offworld, and the inhabitants tended to be suspicious of outsiders. Dalians, in particular, were largely distrustful of strangers, although they recognized the necessity of trade with them. They did not accept credits or any other form of currency, preferring instead to use the barter system. The level of technology on the planet was less advanced than that of the rest of the galaxy, and advanced technology could be exchanged for valuable items.

The planet's inhabitants raised nerfs, which they used for both milk and meat. Other farmers raised Cracian thumpers. Local foods and drinks included beer, cider, fruit juices, wine, potatoes, gravy, and bread.

Several predatory species roamed Dalicron-4. They often preyed on unfortunate victims of the planet's unpredictable megastorms. The verlen was one such predator, hunting in packs within the forests.

Locations

Dalia was the largest settlement on Dalicron-4, yet it only had a population of 100 citizens. It was a small town, with only about six buildings in 3 ABY. (Most residents of the region lived on farms in the surrounding countryside.) The social center of the town was Daz's Tavern, a wooden structure that served food and beverages. The town possessed the only starship landing field, which could accommodate up to eight light freighters but lacked refueling and repair facilities. The landing field was unmanned, so communications from space and requests for landing clearance went unanswered.

The tree into which the Jedi Master Duumas transferred his spirit was located near Dalia. It created a peculiar 50-meter zone where the Force could not penetrate and where the planet's violent storms had no effect. It had a striking white trunk and two-toned leaves; the upper sides were deep green, and the undersides were yellow. The leaves and branches swayed constantly, regardless of the presence of wind.

Behind the scenes

Dalicron-4 serves as the setting for "Child of Light," an adventure in the Child of Light saga for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game published by Wizards of the Coast. The adventure incorrectly spells the world's name as Dalinar-4 on page 7.
