Vesuvague tree

The Vesuvague Hanging Tree, also known as the Vesuvague tree, was a red-barked tree that exhibited carnivorous behavior and a degree of semi-sentience. This plant originated from the planet of Ithor. It was one of several sentient flora species native to that world, including the Bafforr tree.

Although rooted to one spot, the vesuvague tree possessed the ability to detect movement and relocate itself. It achieved this by sensing air vibrations through its leaves and ground vibrations through its roots. To capture its prey, it employed rapidly extending vines and roots. These could extend several meters in a matter of seconds, allowing it to seize, strangle, and crush its victims. Once a creature perished, the tree would insert its vines and roots into the corpse and gradually absorb its bodily fluids.

Similar to a domesticated animal, the tree could be trained to respond to basic instructions. It could also comprehend spoken languages by using its leaves to perceive the vibrations and patterns of speech.

Some predatory vesuvague trees were maintained at the southern end of Gardulla the Hutt's pleasure garden. This garden was located within her palace on Tatooine, not far from the Dune Sea. The garden's inhabitants and unwilling visitors would watch in horror as the tree's limbs suddenly dropped, attempting to strangle, and often succeeding in strangling, unsuspecting passersby. These were captive beings that Gardulla forced into the garden for the twisted entertainment of herself and others.

Momaw Nadon cultivated a vesuvague tree within his garden at his home in Mos Eisley on Tatooine. This tree served as a guardian for the property, and its fearsome reputation deterred both stormtroopers and local police. Furthermore, the grove concealed a clandestine chamber used to shelter local Rebels.
