Wilk (wolf)

title: Wilk

On the Forest Moon of Endor, a sentient wolf named Wilk was born; he was a male and a mutant. Abandoned by his mother due to his mutated state, Wilk was left to survive on his own. Later, the hermit Bloch discovered Wilk, adopting him and teaching him the art of speech. Despite this ability, Wilk would sometimes feign being a regular domesticated pet, concealing his power of speech as needed. Eventually, Wilk departed Endor alongside his friend El Borak, embarking on a journey to explore the vast galaxy.

Biography

Born in 33 BBY during the Old Republic era, Wilk was a male wolf native to the Forest Moon of Endor. Unlike his mother, who was a typical wolf, Wilk was born with a genetic mutation, setting him apart from the other wolves of Endor. Cast aside by his mother because of this, he was eventually found by Bloch, a reclusive hermit. Bloch took Wilk in and imparted knowledge of the world, including how to speak. Later, Wilk joined forces with El Borak, and together they traversed the galaxy. On one occasion, the pair encountered the deranged Doctor Ames, who involved them in a perilous mission. In another instance, Wilk engaged Imperial TIE fighters in space combat, successfully shooting down several, a feat he believed was unprecedented for his species. Wilk was alive at least until the time of the Battle of Yavin, which took place in 0 ABY.

Personality and traits

Wilk was a wolf of considerable size, with a weight approaching 300 kilograms and a height of 1.3 meters. Unusually for a wolf, he lived a long life, reaching thirty-three years of age by 0 BBY. His sophisticated manner of speaking often surprised those who met him. However, Wilk would sometimes pretend to be a mere animal companion when circumstances warranted it. He also possessed an understanding of technology, allowing him to overcome design limitations and destroy multiple enemy TIE fighters. Generally good-natured and humorous, Wilk could become fiercely aggressive when someone he cared about was threatened. In such situations, he would use his large claws as formidable weapons.

Behind the scenes

Wilk's character was introduced in dossier BXLH: Les mutants dans Star Wars (translated as File BXLH: The mutants in Star Wars), a roleplaying article featured in the French magazine Graal 23 in 1990. Olivier Frot was the author of the article. The provided roleplaying statistics were designed to be compatible with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game by West End Games.
