Wookieepedia:WookieeProject Web
WookieeProject: Web emerges as a direct response to the growing demand for enhanced support concerning the utilization of web-based resources on Wookieepedia. This project stems from several key observations: the quantity of web content relevant to Wookieepedia's scope is constantly expanding, and effectively cataloging this content presents a significant challenge, particularly given the transient nature of web pages and sites that can disappear without notice; this cataloging process necessitates specialized tools, including citation templates and archive repositories; successful implementation requires users to develop a certain level of expertise; and finally, past coordination on this matter has been limited, requiring stronger collaborative efforts. This WookieeProject builds upon prior independent or coordinated initiatives, such as the 2020 archive link project.
The core proposition of WookieeProject: Web is to establish a sustainable, collaborative platform where users can:
- collaboratively organize the systematic cataloging of the numerous websites vital to Wookieepedia's operation, such as StarWars.com, employing a standardized global methodology that provides real-time insight into task progress, thereby minimizing redundancy by eliminating uncertainty such as "has this already been checked?"
- offer assistance with technical challenges, either by proposing innovative ideas and requests or by contributing technical knowledge and skills.
- acquire crucial skills necessary for the successful completion of this project, such as maximizing the potential of Archive.org.
Unlike the majority of WookieeProjects, our primary emphasis lies on "Research & Development," as our objective is to fundamentally improve Wookieepedia's utilization of web content. However, there are no restrictions preventing participants from actively enhancing articles (authors, web articles, websites) and advocating for their advancement to featured status, which the WookieeProject will support (talk page template and nominations will be integrated into the project as needed).

Frequently asked question
Is this project really necessary?
Indeed. While editors have been incorporating links into articles since Wookieepedia's inception, this was frequently conducted in an unsystematic and highly subjective manner, resulting in the omission of entire web pages and topics. Since then, websites have disappeared, further complicating our ability to recover lost information. Consequently, a dedicated initiative is essential to eliminate any ambiguity in our coverage of web content.
What is "indexing"?
Indexing refers to the intellectual process of gathering, listing, and categorizing relevant terms (person, character, event, etc.) or documents to facilitate efficient information retrieval. Within Wookieepedia, this translates to the activity of populating lists for Appearances and Sources, in simple terms. It is a fundamental task in the context of an encyclopedia and, ideally, should be the initial step when encountering a new document.
Why archiving is so important?
Attribution and verifiability are fundamental principles of Wookieepedia, which we uphold through Sourcing. Without these, we could not claim any level of quality or reliability. The web comprises a network of documents, and these documents are critical to the attribution chain we rely upon. However, if link rot occurs, meaning that these documents are relocated (url address change) or deleted (due to the hosting entity's decision), then access to these documents through the links provided on Wookieepedia is lost, and the attribution chain is disrupted. The only dependable solution to this significant problem is the use of a web archive: a copy of a web page hosted on a specialized website, such as archive.org or archive.today. Without these, we would have lost a substantial amount of valuable content.
