Xerxes, situated within the Xerxes system, was a planet classified as a Core World. Its atmosphere was suitable for Human life. The smuggler Roark Garnet, who was wanted by the local planetary police, once made a visit to this world.
Found in the Core Worlds region, Xerxes existed as a planet within the Xerxes system. The atmosphere was breathable for Humans. A police force maintained order on the world.
During the era of the Galactic Civil War, Roark Garnet, a smuggler, desired to visit a weapons shop located on Xerxes. However, because he was being hunted by the local police, he suspected a potential trap might be waiting for him at the shop. Garnet watched the establishment for a full hour, but remained uncertain whether danger awaited him without personally inspecting the interior. Not wanting to risk walking into a trap, he offered a local Human citizen a sum of twenty credits to enter the shop, observe the surroundings, and then report back to him.
Xerxes first appeared in Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, which was published by West End Games back in 1987. It serves as an example scenario to illustrate why a non-player Human character only has 2D as their base statistics—which signifies the number of dice the gamemaster rolls when using a skill—rather than the 3D base statistics that player characters start with. In the example, the player character, Roark Garnet, is trying to convince a non-player character to help him, and this is resolved by an opposed dice roll, with the player rolling three dice against the gamemaster's two.
Xerxes I of Persia, also known as Xerxes the Great, was the fourth King of Kings who reigned over the First Persian Empire. He is known for leading his armies against King Leonidas at the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC.
