The Yavin training grounds served as a place where the Jedi belonging to the New Jedi Order could refine and sharpen their abilities. Situated to the South of the Great Temple was a complex maze of ancient Massassi structures, the training grounds furnished Jedi learners with ample chances to advance their proficiency in skills like Force Jump, Force pull, Force push, and Force speed. Providing access to a collection of remotes and Jedi training droids, the training grounds also allowed the Jedi students to practice lightsaber combat.
During 12 ABY, Luke Skywalker used the ruins as a place to conceal Kyle Katarn's lightsaber, creating a trial for him. His entitlement to wield the weapon would be determined by his ability to recover it. Subsequently, in the same location, Kyle engaged in a duel against the dark Jedi Desann. Katarn returned to the ruins two years after this event, using the area to instruct other students, notably Jaden Korr and Rosh Penin.
