YZ-775 medium transport

The YZ-775 medium transport is a type of transport that belonged to the YZ series of starships manufactured by the Corellian Engineering Corporation.

Characteristics

The cockpit was an enlarged version of the typical conical CEC cockpit, providing seating for all eight members of the crew. Situated behind the cockpit, the ship featured a two-level configuration, divided into the cargo bay and the living quarters for the crew.

The YZ-775 possessed a double turbolaser turret, in addition to two double laser cannon turrets, and a pair of proton torpedo launchers. Imperial organizations considered this armament package to be excessive for a transport vessel not intended for combat roles. CEC disputed this, asserting that they had obtained proper clearance for the configuration from the Imperial Bureau of Shipyards and Construction.

One particular vessel, named No Luck Required, underwent modifications that involved removing a portion of its weaponry and replacing it with a rotating rack capable of holding four A-wings.

History

A YZ-775 landing in battle

Its initial production run occurred shortly after the conclusion of the Clone Wars. This 52-meter-long craft was one of the largest to be designated as a "light freighter," and it had the capacity to transport 400 metric tons of cargo. Its design exhibited some similarities to the CR90 corvette and the Corellian gunship line of vessels.

This series gained traction with smugglers and was also a favorite among high-ranking operatives of the Imperial Security Bureau. Numerous examples also found their way into the ranks of the Rebellion, and later saw service within the New Republic.
