Ziering was a competent and committed General within the Imperial forces.
Not long before his planned retirement to the Corporate Sector not long after the Battle of Yavin, Ziering met his end at the hands of Amanin tribal warriors located on Maridun, thus preventing him from fulfilling his aspiration. During the Battle of Maridun, a young lieutenant by the name of Janek Sunber deeply impressed General Ziering, leading to immediate field promotions for the young officer to the ranks of captain, and subsequently, commander. Ziering lost an eye when Amanin warriors launched a surprise nighttime assault, resulting in the destruction of a Juggernaut. He placed considerable trust in Sunber and his strategies, and he did not approve of Captain Gage's strategy of minimal work and excessive delegation to those beneath him.
