SkyeWalkers author Abel G. Peña intended this serum to be the one seen in Star Wars: Clone Wars used to mutate the natives of Nelvaan. Influenced by the many homages in Star Wars materials to George Lucas's earlier film, THX-1138, Peña named the substance after LUH-3417, the love interest of the title character of the film.
