In 22 BBY, it was the site of the Battle of Abregado during the Clone Wars, where the Separatist Subjugator-class heavy cruiser Malevolence single-handedly annihilated an entire Republic fleet. The battle resulted in the formation of a debris field, comprised of starship wreckage, in orbit of Anza.
In the new Star Wars canon, the star of the Abregado system was created for "Rising Malevolence," the second episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars' first season, which originally aired on October 3, 2008. However, it first appeared in the opening newsreel of "Ambush," the first episode of the season that also aired on the same day.
The star Anza was originally introduced in Coruscant and the Core Worlds, a 2003 Star Wars Legends sourcebook for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game. The name was brought into canon by the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia.
