Balmorran maweater

The Balmorran maweater existed on an island chain of the planet Balmorra prior to the Great Galactic War, which pitted the Galactic Republic against the reconstituted Sith Empire during those centuries. This creature earned its name from its role as the main predator of the wingmaw, another species from the same island chain. Roughly six hundred years before the Great War, both species were inadvertently transported to Balmorra's mainland by explorers who were not careful. During the Great War, the Sith Empire's bombardment of Balmorra led to the maweaters' extinction. Consequently, the wingmaw population thrived, rapidly becoming a danger to both sentients and the overall ecological balance of the planet.

Behind the scenes

The first reference to Balmorran maweaters appeared within the Codex entry detailing wingmaws featured in Star Wars: The Old Republic, a massively multiplayer online role-playing video game launched in 2011 by BioWare. The codex did not provide any description of their physical characteristics.
