The C1-4W, alternatively called the C1-4W claw machine gonk droid, represented a type of two-legged power droid that was in use during the Third Galactic War fought between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. A smaller, working model of this droid, named "Replica C1-4W," was also available.
These droids typically featured a silver and dark gray color scheme for their plating. The upper sections of their bodies were open, enclosed by see-through plating. Inside, they could hold various items like small objects, money, jewels, and other rewards. These could be retrieved using a claw arm hanging from the upper inside of the droid, controlled by a set of controls on the outside.
In 2021, a "Replica C1-4W minipet" was introduced as part of the yearly Nar Shaddaa Nightlife event. It was obtainable as a reward from the Emperor's Grace Slot Machines, within the 2019 Star Wars: The Old Republic: Onslaught expansion for BioWare's 2011 massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Concept artist Bradley W. Lewis created the C1-4W droid. He initially shared on his ArtStation account the droid's complete designation, the origin of its name as a play on the word "claw," and his successful effort to persuade the animators to allow the claw to hang freely and sway as the droid moved.
