The BlasTech E-11D blaster carbine was the lightweight, sturdily-built standard-issue weapon of Galactic Empire's death troopers. The E-11D was designed for close-quarters and urban combat situations, the type of occurrences that death troopers excel in. The carbine traded range and accuracy for stopping power and short range performance. The E-11D came with a large-bore reinforced barrel and was equipped with integrated features to improve power output, balance, and handling. It also had an integrated stun setting. It could also be reconfigured with a grenade launcher attachment.
Imperial death troopers wielded E-11D blaster carbines. The Death Squad Leader was armed with an E-11D. Director Orson Callan Krennic had a squad of death troopers, many of whom wielded E-11Ds, at his disposal and acting as his personal guards. In 18 BBY, a contingent of death troopers was requisitioned from Krennic by the Sith Lord Darth Vader, who led them into the skirmish in the Korakanni Mound. Several of the death troopers wielded E-11Ds during the engagement. During the capture of Galen Erso in 13 BBY, several of Krennic's death troopers held E-11Ds as they marched on Lah'mu in search of the Erso family. Imperial Purge Troopers, by the time they shifted into Phase II Purge Trooper armor, wielded E-11D carbines.
During his service to the Empire, Grand Admiral Mitth'raw'nuruodo "Thrawn" was granted a squad of death troopers by Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine himself. The squad acted as Thrawn's personal security. They were armed with the standard E-11D. During the occupation of Lothal, death troopers such as DT-L21 were armed with the standard-issue blaster rifle.
In 1 BBY, members of a death trooper squad under Commander DT-F16 wielded E-11Ds during the mission to Faos Station, in which they attempted to protect a kyber crystal shipment. During the Battle of Scarif, Krennic ordered all but two of his personal death trooper squad onto the beaches. The majority of troops wielded the E-11D.
After the collapse of the Empire, Gideon's Imperial remnant had a unit of death troopers, all of which were armed with the E-11D blaster rifle as well. The death troopers of Thrawn's forces still used the E-11D during their exile on the extragalactic planet Peridea. One of them used a variant of the blaster carbine that lacked the metallic reinforced barrel tip that it usually has.
