Haneli was a terrestrial planet located in the Expansion Region that was home to haneli flowers. In 382 BBY, Supreme Chancellor Orlen Mollo regularly enjoyed a cup of Haneli Flower Tea made from the world's flowers. During the reign of the New Republic, the student Izal Garsea traveled to the world to smuggle some of the flowers off Haneli for her professor—who made potent tea out of haneli flowers—amidst the world's drought but was caught and dropped the cargo. Between 34 ABY and 35 ABY, the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs traveled to Haneli after the drought's end and picked some of the flowers, documenting his trip to the world in his cookbook The Ultimate Cookbook.
The terrestrial planet Haneli was located in the Expansion Region and the Trailing Sectors. Haneli flowers—a type of flower that had multiple uses, including the creation of Haneli Flower Tea—were native to the world.
Haneli flowers were harvested from Haneli and made into Haneli Flower Tea during the High Republic Era. As part of his daily morning routine in 382 BBY, the Galactic Republic Supreme Chancellor Orlen Mollo consumed a cup of the tea while aboard the Alif-class Longbeam starship Paxion during a trip to the Eiram system.
During the New Republic Era, a genetic science professor at an academy on the Mid Rim world Eroudac brewed a potent version of Haneli Flower Tea with flowers from the world, and the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs always kept a kettle of it in his kitchen. Due to a drought breaking out on Haneli between 21 ABY and 32 ABY, the price of the haneli flower increased substantially. The professor hired one of her students, Izal Garsea, to smuggle a quantity of the flowers for her, as the teacher could no longer afford them on her salary. Garsea was caught while attempting to carry the flowers aboard her starship, the Meridian, and abandoned the cargo, choosing not to return to the academy.
Several years after her parents' deaths, in 34 ABY, Garsea recounted the story of her smuggling attempt on Haneli to her friend Julen Rakab, a farmer on the Outer Rim planet Batuu. The same year, the historian Eloc Throno included Haneli on a map in his guidebook Traveler's Guide to Batuu. Between 34 ABY and 35 ABY, Tuggs took a culinary tour of the galaxy. The drought had ceased by that time, and the Artiodac stopped on Haneli to gather some haneli flowers—for free—as the final part of the Expansion Region portion of his tour. Tuggs later used his gathered flowers to brew a kettle of Haneli Flower Tea on the burner on board his food freighter as he traveled to the Mid Rim. He later documented his trip to Haneli and included a recipe for the tea in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published in 35 ABY.
Haneli was first mentioned in the 2019 novel A Crash of Fate, written by Zoraida Córdova.
