Haneli Flower Tea

Haneli Flower Tea, or simply Haneli Tea, was a type of potent red tea brewed from the haneli flower that calmed the nerves. Supreme Chancellor Orlen Mollo drank the tea every day as part of his morning routine, including when he traveled on the Alif-class Longbeam Paxion in 382 BBY. An academy professor on the world Eroudac later worked out how to brew a very potent version of the tea, hiring the student Izal Garsea to smuggle her some of the flowers when drought caused their price to increase.

Prior to the price rise, the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs always kept a kettle of the tea in his kitchen, and he later collected the flowers for free and brewed the beverage when visiting the flower's homeworld, Haneli, during a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took between 34 ABY and 35 ABY. He then included a recipe for the tea in The Ultimate Cookbook.

Description

Haneli Flower Tea, also known as just Haneli Tea, was a type of potent red tea brewed from haneli flowers and served in a glass with ice and a dark red leaf garnish. The beverage had a calming effect that could sooth even the most frayed of nerves and was potable to the Artiodac and Quarren species.

During the High Republic Era in 382 BBY, the Quarren Supreme Chancellor Orlen Mollo followed a morning routine every day that consisted of drinking Haneli Flower Tea, taking a long and scalding shower, and then lathering himself with moruga nut oil due to the lack of humidity in most locations he visited. In that year, he followed this routine while traveling from the planet Eiram to the planet E'ronoh on board the Alif-class Longbeam Paxion.

A genetic science professor at an academy on the world Eroudac later worked out how to brew a very potent version of Haneli Flower Tea, and the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs always kept a kettle of it in his kitchen until a severe drought on Haneli, the homeworld of the haneli flower, caused the price of the flowers to rise to a level that Tuggs was not willing to pay.

Post-drought return

The professor could also nearly no longer afford the flowers on her salary and so, at some point no earlier than 21 ABY, she hired the academy student Izal Garsea to smuggle some to her; however, Garsea was caught and dropped the cargo. In 34 ABY, Garsea told her friend Julen Rakab about smuggling the tea, leading Rakab to wonder if the professor had conned Garsea since there were other uses for haneli flowers besides making the tea.

By the time Tuggs made a culinary tour of the galaxy between 34 ABY and 35 ABY, the drought had ended, and the flowers could be picked for free on Haneli. The Artiodac stopped on Haneli as the final part of the Expansion Region portion of this tour and gathered some that he then used to brew a kettle of Haneli Flower Tea on the burner on board his food freighter as he set course for the Mid Rim. He later included a recipe for the tea in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published in 35 ABY.

Behind the scenes

Haneli Flower Tea was first indirectly mentioned in Zoraida Córdova's 2019 novel, A Crash of Fate, and then received a name when a recipe for it was included in the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the tea makes use of water, granulated sugar, dried hibiscus flowers, iced green tea, lemon juice, ice, and edible flowers.
