The Intelligence branch also existed in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was introduced in the 1989 Imperial Sourcebook, which was authored by Greg Gorden and published by West End Games. They performed a similar role of taking data from the Analysis Bureau and providing it to a group of experts to predict what opponents would do next.
