A depiction of the Mid Rim's sectors.
A star sector, also called a sector, represented a region of space or a landmass defined by a man-made, standardized border.
A planetary sector was composed of multiple solar systems. Sectors also functioned as political regions. Approximately 1,000 sectors made up the galaxy. During the reign of the Galactic Empire, 1,024 distinct regional sectors existed and were governed by a Moff, or sector governor. An Oversector, governed by a Grand Moff, could be formed by combining several sectors.
The boundaries for sectors monitored by supervisors from the Imperial Security Bureau were established by Major Lio Partagaz.
Sectors could also represent specific areas on a planet's surface. During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems divided its territory on Anaxes into sectors, including one known as Sector One. Sector 3263827 was the destination for waste transported from Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim planet Batuu.
