Anaxes

Anaxes existed as a planet characterized by its rocky terrain. It was situated within the Azure sector of the Outer Rim Territories in the galaxy. The majority of its surface was populated by towering, red plant-like organisms. This world was crucial to the Galactic Republic due to its shipyards and its strategic position in defending the Core Worlds from incursions along the Perlemian Trade Route.

During the early years of the Imperial Era, a cataclysmic event destroyed the planet. Its remnants now form the asteroid belt of Anaxes.

Description

The landscape of Anaxes

Within the Outer Rim Territories' Azure sector, situated on the Coreward edge, was the rocky and jungle planet of Anaxes. It served as the homeworld for the silicon-based fyrnock species. The jungles were abundant with tall, red plant-like lifeforms, likely also silicon-based. Additionally, the planet featured hills and grasslands where agriculture was practiced, giving rise to the Spiral Dumplings delicacy.

History

Anaxes, a long-standing member of the Galactic Republic, held a strategic location along the Perlemian Trade Route on the Coreward edge. It housed a Republic naval base that protected the Core Worlds from attacks along the Perlemian, as well as prominent shipyards. For centuries, its primary focus was collaboration with local defense forces.

Anaxes from space during the Clone Wars

During the [Clone Wars](/article/clone_wars], Anaxes regained importance in the galactic landscape. Remaining loyal to the Republic, the planet was attacked in the last year of the war by a Confederate fleet led by Admiral Trench, as part of the Outer Rim Sieges. Initially, the Separatists gained an advantage by exploiting a Grand Army of the Republic strategic algorithm that had been obtained through the capture of ARC trooper Echo, who was presumed to have died earlier in the conflict. Following Echo's rescue from the Techno Union on Skako Minor by Republic forces, they infiltrated the communications of Trench's flagship, the Invulnerable. They ordered him to concentrate his forces at the assembly complex, where they would face Jedi Generals Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the 212th Attack Battalion. After the droid forces were defeated, Anakin Skywalker eliminated Trench and destroyed his flagship, securing a Republic victory.

Following the Clone Wars, a catastrophic event destroyed Anaxes, likely caused by a main reactor failure that triggered a massive explosion of hypermatter stored in the shipyards. The resulting debris formed the asteroid belt. Fort Anaxes, a Republic Military base built on Anaxes during the Clone Wars, survived the planet's destruction and remained on the planetoid PM-1203.

Behind the scenes

Anaxes initially appeared in the Star Wars Legends continuity, with its first mention in the sourcebook Coruscant and the Core Worlds, which described it as a major military stronghold of the Galactic Republic's throughout its history. Its first appearance in Legends was in the video game Star Wars: Empire at War.

Before the initial cancellation of Star Wars: The Clone Wars in 2013, a four-part story arc featuring Anaxes was in development. After the series was cancelled, the episodes of the "Bad Batch" arc were presented as story reels at Celebration Anaheim in 2015. Around the same period, the first season of the sequel series Star Wars Rebels featured the Spectres visiting Fort Anaxes, then located in an asteroid field, in the episodes "Out of Darkness" and "Gathering Forces." The official Databank confirmed that the abandoned military base was the same one from the Bad Batch arc, indicating that Anaxes had been destroyed in the intervening years.

Anaxes made its proper debut when a completed version of the Bad Batch arc was aired as part of the seventh and final season of The Clone Wars, which premiered on Disney+ in 2020. Despite previous canon works placing Anaxes in the Core Worlds, Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy situated Anaxes in the Outer Rim, a change confirmed by author Jason Fry to be directed by the Lucasfilm Story Group. Fry was given the freedom to determine the relocated world's position on the galactic map and to write its entry in Battles that Changed the Galaxy, establishing Anaxes on the Coreward edge of the Outer Rim. Subsequently, a map within the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel placed Anaxes within the Core Worlds.
