Standard year

A standard year (SY), which can also be referred to as a standard-year, or simply a year or a cycle, represented a unit for measuring time.

A year on Coruscant consisted of 365 days, with each day comprising 24 hours, and did not incorporate leap years. The galactic capital, Coruscant, served as the basis for a unified dating system used throughout the galaxy. By the era of the New Republic, the dating system would utilize the Battle of Yavin as the central point for designating years.

Some planets, such as Lothal, had years that were segmented into four seasons—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—each distinguished by unique weather or climate patterns. The yearly calendar of the planet Lothal was structured around a system known as Lothal Years. Generally, age was communicated through the use of years.

A duration of ten years was known as a decade, while a hundred years constituted a century, and a period of a thousand years was known as a millennium.
