The seventh season of the animated television program Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which was branded as The Final Season, consists of a set of twelve episodes that were brought back and broadcast on the Disney+ platform. Dave Filoni, the show's supervising director, made the announcement about the revival on July 19, 2018 at San Diego Comic-Con, during a panel celebrating the show's tenth anniversary. These episodes continue the narrative of the series following its cancellation in 2013, and they feature the Siege of Mandalore. The series' main voice actors, including Matt Lanter, Ashley Eckstein, James Arnold Taylor, Dee Bradley Baker, Tom Kane, Sam Witwer, and Katee Sackhoff, among others, all came back to provide their vocal talents to the series.
From October 3, 2008 until its last regularly scheduled broadcast episode on March 2, 2013, Star Wars: The Clone Wars was on the air. This followed the show's cancellation at the conclusion of its fifth season. A season of shorter length was made available on Netflix on March 7, 2014, and a few story arcs were distributed across various media formats in the years that followed. Star Wars Rebels succeeded the show, continuing the stories of characters from the Clone Wars period, such as Ahsoka Tano and Clone Captain Rex, but viewers kept requesting more episodes of The Clone Wars. #SaveTheCloneWars was a well-known hashtag used for the campaign.

The announcement of an extension to the original series on the Disney+ streaming platform took place at San Diego Comic Con on July 19, 2018, during a panel that commemorated the show's tenth anniversary. The announcement included a trailer for the new season and a poster featuring the hashtag #CloneWarsSaved, which referenced the fan campaign. A StarWars.com interview with Dave Filoni, the show's supervising director, verified that the new season would have 12 brand-new episodes. The Siege of Mandalore was one of the season's story arcs, and the trailer featured a few scenes from it. The arc, which was initially intended to serve as the show's series finale, occurs in the days leading up to and during the events of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, including Order 66. Star Wars Rebels made mention of the arc, and the young-adult novel Ahsoka partially adapted it. E. K. Johnston, the author, later disclosed that she had been instructed not to include any action scenes from the Siege of Mandalore in the book because Lucasfilm was secretly working on the final season.
The revival trailer confirmed that Matt Lanter, Ashley Eckstein, James Arnold Taylor, and Dee Bradley Baker would be returning to their roles as Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Captain Rex, respectively. Tom Kane stated on his Facebook account in August 2018 that he had recorded lines for five new episodes of the revival, but he did not specify whether he would be reprising his roles as the Narrator, Yoda, or Wullf Yularen. He eventually played all three parts again. Eckstein stated that recording was still in progress as of November 5, 2018. Later, Sam Witwer and Ray Park were verified to be reprising their roles as Maul, with the former providing the voice as he had in prior seasons and the latter offering motion capture reference. During the production process, several of the models, including Captain Rex's, were modified and enhanced using cutting-edge animation technology. Star Wars Insider 190 later revealed that the episodes were still being produced as of June 12, 2019. Filoni believed that his work on this season had been influenced by his experiences on The Mandalorian. George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, spoke with Filoni about some series ideas and concepts even though he was no longer involved with the franchise. Filoni made an effort to keep the revival consistent with Lucas' vision so that it, along with other projects, would remain true to the franchise's films and principles.
At 2019's Celebration Chicago, which took place on April 14, there was a panel dedicated to the The Clone Wars revival. During the panel, a trailer and behind-the-scenes images were presented. The trailer verified that the revival would include a completed version of the "Bad Batch" arc, which was initially presented as an unfinished story reel, with fully realized animation, in addition to displaying more footage of "Ahsoka's Walkabout" and the Siege of Mandalore.
