Matthew Wood

Matthew Russell Wood, born on August 15, 1972, currently holds the position of Supervising Sound Editor (2008) at Skywalker Sound, which is located in Marin County, California.

Biography

Throughout the prequel trilogy, Matthew Wood contributed his skills as a supervising sound editor to all three films. Furthermore, he made an uncredited acting appearance in The Phantom Menace, portraying Bib Fortuna and providing the voice for Ody Mandrell. In Attack of the Clones, he took on the roles of Seboca and Magaloof.

Under the guidance of Ben Burtt, Matthew Wood created the Geonosian language, also known as the "Geonosian hive-mind," using three distinct sound recordings he made during a trip to Australia. In Melbourne, he captured the mating calls of penguins at a wildlife reserve. Moving on to Cairns, Wood recorded the sounds of a group of fruit bats engaged in a dispute over a banana, as well as recordings of flying foxes. Burtt then combined these recordings to construct the Geonosian language. Wood's initial voice acting for B1-series battle droids occurred in Attack of the Clones.

His most notable voice acting role is arguably that of General Grievous in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, its associated video game, the Star Wars Halloween Audiocast, the video game Star Wars: Battlefront II, and the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series. Within the same series, he also voices battle droids, Wat Tambor, HELIOS-3D, Senate Guards, Commando droid, and Poggle the Lesser.

On October 24, 2013, Lucasfilm made the announcement that Wood would be the supervising sound editor for the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This work earned Wood an Oscar nomination. Matthew Wood also lent his voice to the B1 battle droid Roger, a central character in the 2016 Disney XD TV series LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. Additionally, Wood contributed extra voices for death troopers and provided the voice for Pao in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Wood, in collaboration with Ren Klyce, worked as a sound editor for Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, which led to another Oscar nomination for him.
