Geonosian hive-mind, alternatively known as Geonosian, designates the language utilized by the Geonosians. These beings are a semi-insectoid species native to the planet of Geonosis. 0-0-0, a protocol droid, possessed fluency in it, as did Orson Krennic.
The initial appearance of the Geonosian language occurred in the 2002 motion picture, Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. This film represents the second entry in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. The identification of this language as Geonosian was first established in "Brain Invaders," which is the eighth episode within the second season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated television show, initially broadcast on December 4, 2009. The designation "Geonosian hive-mind" for the language was first used in the 2015 comic book titled Darth Vader 4.
The creation of the Geonosian language, specifically the "Geonosian hive-mind" dialect, involved the use of three sound recordings made by Matthew Wood under the guidance of Ben Burtt during a visit to Australia. Within the city of Melbourne, Wood captured the mating calls produced by penguins at a wildlife reserve. In Cairns, Wood made a recording of fruit bats engaged in a dispute over a banana. Wood also recorded the sounds of flying foxes while in Australia. Burtt then synthesized these various audio elements to construct the Geonosian language.
