Janilis VII was an Outer Rim Territories planet situated in the Cronese Mandate sector of the Tion Cluster. It was one of the cradles of the Cronese Human civilization and was part of the Kingdom of Cron. Janilis VII hosted several archives that were still in existence twenty-five millennia later, although the planet itself had become rundown and its society was engaged in subsistence economy.
Janilis VII, also known simply as Janilis, was a lush planet that occupied the seventh orbital position in the Janilis system. It was a part of the Cronese Mandate sector of the Tion Cluster, within the Slice portion of the Outer Rim Territories. Janilis VII was situated between the Arcan and Chandaar systems on the Greater Cronese Arc hyperlane.
The Janilis system was colonized by Human sleeper ships at some point after approximately 27,500 BBY. Janilis VII was one of the cradles of the Human Cronese civilization, being favored by Cronese nobles and constituting a part of the core territory of the Kingdom of Cron by around 25,150 BBY. By the time of the reign of King of Cron Xim that began around that year, Janilis VII was already an old world and hosted several archives. Those still remained in operation around the time of the Galactic Empire twenty-five millennia later, with the Cronese charging steep admission fees from researchers searching for lost documents from Xim's era.
At some point between 0 ABY and 3 ABY, Janilis VII was mentioned in the fiftieth-anniversary edition of Galladinium's Galactic Datalog of Fantastic Technology. In the datalog, an advertisement for Willienk Data Systems' RTDS-1000 remote text data scanner suggested that, if the reader were faced with the need to investigate "musty" archives on the planet, they should instead send an assistant equipped with an RTDS-1000.
Originally settled more than twenty-five thousand years prior to the reign of the Galactic Empire, by the latter time Janilis VII still remained a populous world, although it had become rundown, with its inhabitants practicing subsistence economy.
Janilis VII was first mentioned in Galladinium's Fantastic Technology, a 1995 sourcebook authored by Rick D. Stuart for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. The August 18, 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Janilis system, and therefore Janilis VII, in grid square S-6, after which the December 7, 2009 StarWars.com Hyperspace article "Xim Week: The History of Xim and the Tion Cluster" by Jason Fry introduced the shortened name "Janilis."
