Malata, a world situated within the Malata system of the Unknown Regions, was classified as a planet. Following the disintegration of the Rakatan Infinite Empire circa 25,200 BBY, this planet became integrated into the Rakatan Archipelago, a scattered collection of independent worlds settled by various clans of the Rakata species.
The Rakata tribe that established a colony on Malata brought along their enslaved population, including Wookiees originating from Kashyyyk, a Mid Rim planet and their natives. The overbreeding of the Wookiee population on Malata resulted in the development of debilitating genetic anomalies, causing them to be hairless, hunched over, and possessing elongated front incisors adapted for consuming dense timber thickets.
The planet Malata was initially presented in The Unknown Regions, a supplementary book released in 2010 by Wizards of the Coast for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game.
