The Mankvim-814 light interceptor, alternatively called the Techno Union Fighter, served as an interceptor crafted by the Techno Union during the Clone Wars period. Before the Battle of Utapau, the Grand Hall of the Traders' Guild located in Pau City on the planet Utapau was repurposed by the guild into a manufacturing plant for Mankvim-814 production.
This Techno Union-designed and Feethan Ottraw Scalable Assemblies-manufactured Mankvim-814 was a small, single-pilot interceptor starfighter intended as a versatile, compact fighter for defending Confederacy of Independent Systems territories, notably the planet Utapau. Due to its adaptable role and the capacity to be built using locally sourced materials, the Mankvim possessed an exceptionally light build. Its thin frame rendered it susceptible to enemy fire, but enhanced its combat speed. The internal systems were intentionally simplified, consisting primarily of a central reactor directly linked to and powering a single ion drive engine, which, in conjunction with wing-mounted maneuvering fans, facilitated the starfighter's movement. Lacking a hyperdrive, the Makvim was optimized for local defense operations.
The Makvim-814 featured twin rapid-fire laser cannons positioned on the ship's front, adjacent to the forward sensor and scanner array. To withstand engagements with more heavily armed starfighters, it incorporated robust deflector shields and side maneuvering thrusters near the main drive, enabling intricate roll and yaw adjustments. The ship's maneuvering capabilities were further augmented by repulsorlifts on the wings, which provided aerodynamic lift during subsonic atmospheric flight, and a magnetized thrust-vectoring rudder connected to the ion drive. These features allowed it to effectively compete with more advanced spacecraft, compensating for its limited armor and lighter armament.
Sometime before the Battle of Utapau, the Techno Union conceived the Mankvim-418 light interceptor.
The Techno Union Fighter, officially the Mankvim-814 interceptor, made its debut in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. Its design was inspired by Flash Gordon.
