The Mankvim-814 was a compact, single-pilot interceptor starfighter designed by the Techno Union and manufactured by Feethan Ottraw Scalable Assemblies to act as a small versatile fighter craft for the defense of Confederacy of Independent Systems footholds and specifically the planet Utapau. Because of this versatile role, and its ability to be constructed from whatever materials happened to be present on a world, the Mankvim was extremely lightweight. It was constructed from a thin frame that made it very vulnerable to enemy fire, but fast in combat, and its interior systems were designed to be as simplistic as possible: it was little more than a central reactor directly connected to and powering the single ion drive engine, which, along with maneuvering fans on the wings, moved the starfighter around. The Makvim did not have a hyperdrive, as it was focused on local area defense.
The Makvim-814 was armed with twin rapid-fire laser cannons mounted on the front of the ship, next to the forward sensor and scanner array. To survive encounters with heavier armed starfighters, it was equipped with powerful deflector shields and maneuvering side thrusters next to the main drive, which allowed it to perform complex roll and yaw adjustments to its flight path. A padding of repulsorlifts on the wings, which added aerodynamic lift in subsonic atmospheric flights, and a magnetized thrust-vectoring rudder attached to the ion drive completed the ship's maneuvering systems, and allowed it to effectively engage more advanced craft, compensating for its lack of armor and heavier weaponry.
The Mankvim-418 interceptor was designed by the Techno Union sometime prior to the Battle of Utapau.
The Mankvim-814 interceptor, also known as the Techno Union Fighter, first appeared in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. It was inspired by Flash Gordon designs.
