Maximilian Veers' family

History

By the time the Human male Maximilian Veers was born on the planet Denon his family had a long history of military service with few political connections. Veers attended the Imperial Academy and was promoted to the rank of major in the Imperial Army following his actions during the insurrection on Culroon III. Soon afterwards, between 19 BBY and 9 BBY, Veers married a woman and they had their only son, Zevulon Veers. The family resembled the ideal loyal Imperial family described in propaganda Maximilian's wife died of a rare disease during a family holiday. Maximilian poured himself into his work subsequently and encouraged his son to join the army to honor her memory. Maximilian was a strict disciplinarian rather than a caring father and Zevulon questioned the Empire's values throughout his education.

Maximilian rose to the rank of general, and was assigned to Death Squadron, the personal fleet group of the Sith Lord Darth Vader. The family was propelled into the public eye following Maximilian's role in the Imperial victory against the Alliance to Restore the Republic at the Battle of Hoth, a part of the Galactic Civil War. Maximilian suffered severe injuries to his legs during the battle, but he refused cybernetic due to cultural prejudice against cyborgs and used a repulsorlift carriage to move afterwards. The Imperial propaganda machine held up Maximilian as a "poster boy;" a loyal widower raising his son to follow in his footsteps. Maximilian and Zevulon took a period of short leave together, and both attended celebrations featuring speeches about the glory of the Empire and the immorality of the Rebellion.

Several weeks later, Zevulon defected to the Alliance during a routine political action where he saved a Rebel librarian after he was tortured by his commanding officer, Ivo Laibach. The defection was a boon for the Alliance, as Zevulon was a talented commander and the defection was a significant embarassment to his father's career. Maximilian enjoyed his prestige following Hoth for several months until he learned the truth about Zevulon's choice, and he would preferred for his son to have died. Zevulon did not see or hear from his father again following the defection.

Maximilian continued his military service and was on a planetary mission when Emperor Palpatine and Vader died at the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, which destabalized the Empire. The general tried to find a powerful warlord to align himself with, but many of the surviving Imperials had resented Vader and treated Veers poorly because of his association. He eventually joined the resurrected Palpatine's Dark Empire. Zevulon continued to hold out hope that his family and father would reject the Empire. Maximilian was a captain in the Dark Empire by the time of the Battle of Balmorra in 10 ABY by which point he had lost his motivation and had suicidally thrown himself into the front lines, where he was killed by a dozen SD-10 battle droids.
