The Mitth family crest, which depicted an seven-pointed blazing sun, was the emblem of the Chiss Ascendancy's Mitth family. The Mitth took up the emblem following a war in which twenty members of the family sacrificed their lives to defeat an enemy of the Chiss. They fired the Starflash superweapon into Csilla's sun—the reason the crest was a "blazing sun."
The Mitth family crest was an emblem that depicted a blazing sun in the shape of a light disk surrounded by seven dark triangular points.
The Chiss Ascendancy's Mitth family took up the crest following a brutal war around 4300 BBY during which a group of twenty members of the family sacrificed their lives to fend off an enemy of the Chiss. The group fired a Starflash superweapon into Csilla's sun, which then caused a return blast that obliterated the enemy forces. The truth behind the symbolic meaning of the family's emblem, however, was covered up over the subsequent hundreds of years. Mitth family officers in the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet bore the crest on the shoulder patches of their uniforms, and it was also displayed on the robes and jackets of the family's officials.
At one point by 19 BBY, Stybla family Patriarch Stybla'mi'ovodo, core name "Lamiov," informed Syndic Mitth'ras'safis ("Thrass") and Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo ("Thrawn") of the true meaning behind the Mitth family's crest after they had helped the patriarch recover a part of a second Starflash superweapon.
The Mitth family emblem first appeared on the uniforms of Mitth family officers in Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, the first installment of Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy, released on September 1, 2020. It was first pictured in a promotional image for the novel released alongside an excerpt prior to the novel's release, which was released on July 8 of the same year.
