This particular Mon Calamari Star Cruiser design served both the Rebel Alliance and, subsequently, the New Republic as a spacecraft.
The vessel possessed a stout build, characterized by a forward section that resembled a cone. Their length was approximately twice that of EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigates; however, these cruisers had a significantly larger mass compared to the comparatively skeletal frigate.
This specific model came equipped with landing struts, enabling it to land and dock inside enclosed hangars. Despite having a size comparable to many non-Mon Calamari frigates, these ships were designated as "cruisers."

Vessels of this specific configuration participated in the renowned Battle of Endor, fighting alongside other distinct classes like the larger Liberty type and the Home One type MC80 Star Cruisers.
A short time after the aforementioned battle, some of these cruisers were present at the shipyards of Fondor, where they were undergoing necessary repairs and routine maintenance.
As late as 11 ABY, the Mon Calamari continued to operate this particular class of ship, as evidenced by one being docked at the space city within the Nespis system when it sustained damage from a malfunctioning missile fired from the Galaxy Gun.

The initial visual representation of this ship class came from concept artwork created by Ralph McQuarrie during the early stages of production for Return of the Jedi. A grayscale version of this image was used to illustrate Calamari cruisers in Galaxy Guide 5, and the design was also showcased in the comic adaption of the film.
Subsequently, it made appearances in Star Wars (1977) 98 and again in Star Wars: Empire's End.
