The Retribution originally served with the Daupherm Systems Fleet. However, it was stolen by Gorvan Shrulldike and Evram Darkmere, who set themselves up as pirates and slavers. However, Darkmere began to consider slavery to be repugnant, so he defeated Shrulldike in personal combat and took control of the ship.
The crew of the Retribution was made up mainly of former members of the Daupherm Merchant Space Fleet. The First Mate was Dexter Thorgrim, who personally selected most of the candidates to become new crew members of the ship.
The Retribution appeared in the 1994 Star Wars Roleplaying Game (RPG) supplementary book Cracken's Rebel Operatives, published by West End Games. Mike Jackson, who illustrated the Retribution, noted that the design was one of his personal favourites.
