The Roamer-6 was a type of breath mask manufactured by Gandorthral Atmospherics. The mask fit over the nose and mouth of the wearer, held in place by an adjustable strap that fit around the back of the head. A basic mask, it was compact and easy to wear, even while the wearer was engaged in rigorous activities. The mask itself could be worn by a number of species, including Wookiees.
An air hose connected the mask to a purifier that could be clipped to the wearer's clothing, or tucked into a pocket. The purifier's computer could be programmed to handle the environmental needs of a number of species, and could be adjusted manually while in use. Each mask had a small comlink integrated into it, and molecular hooks allowed the mask to be clipped to goggles or blast helmet.
The Roamer-6 was designed to operate in a variety of atmospheres, allowing the wearer to survive in environments from near-vacuum to poisoned air. Six layers of atmospheric scrubbers were used to filter out dangerous gases, dust particles, pollen, microscopic contaminants, bacteria, and viral organisms. The scrubbers were also capable of breaking down compound gases for use in the absence of breathable air; carbon dioxide could be converted into breathable oxygen. The filters had an hour of use, and replacements could be easily fitted while in the field. The gas filter also had a connected compressed gas tank that carried a ten-minute air supply.
The intake on the Roamer-6 was able to compress thin atmospheres and dilute thick atmospheres. A temperature adjuster allowed the wearer to heat or chill the air being breathed to a comfortable level, preventing damage to the throat of lungs. The gas filter could be fitted to a larger air tank via a tank coupler on the bottom of the unit. These tanks were typically worn on the back. It could also be fitted to other filters with microfine scrubbers that could block out unusual trace gases.
Han Solo and Chewbacca carried several Roamer-6 masks aboard the Millennium Falcon, and once used them to explore the belly of a space slug in the Hoth asteroid field following the Battle of Hoth.
