Ron Fricke

Ron Fricke, a director and cinematographer, filmed the Mount Etna eruption in Sicily, Italy in 2002. He collaborated with film producer Rick McCallum to capture this footage for the 2005 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. These shots from Fricke were incorporated into the movie to depict scenes on Mustafar, a volcanic world covered in lava. With permission from the Italian government, Fricke and McCallum, along with a local guide, dedicated more than a week to filming the eruption at Mount Etna, utilizing a camera they rented from a business located in Milan.
