The Starsider functioned as a Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser for both the New Republic and, at a later time, the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances.
The Dreadnaught, which was nearing the end of its service life, underwent reconstruction to serve as a supply and escort ship amidst the Yuuzhan Vong War. The Twin Suns Squadron utilized it as their central base while it was positioned above Kashyyyk. It participated in several significant battles during the concluding phases of the Yuuzhan Vong War, notably the Battle of Ylesia and the Defense of Mon Calamari.
