U was a moniker given to a male Caarite who worked for the Metatheran Cartel trading concern during the time of the Clone Wars, at a Cartel base on the moon Tilnes. Around 21 BBY, U contracted an experimental virus dispersed by the Believers Sith cult and was transformed into a raging mutant being. He was subsequently coerced by the Believers Aris and Osia into attacking a group of freelance agents that had ventured to the Cartel facility.
U was a moniker given to a male Caarite who served the Metatheran Cartel trading concern during the time of the Clone Wars. U worked at a secret Cartel base beneath the surface of the moon Tilnes in the Cularin system and was present in the facility in around 21 BBY when the Believers Sith cult dispersed an experimental virus fatal to Caarites inside the facility. The contagion quickly felled all of the Caarites present in the Cartel installation with the exception of U and his fellow Cartel members, G and Ko Bas, all three of whom were mutated by the virus and transformed into raging killers bearing little semblance to their former selves.
Unable to leave the stricken Cartel base, U and the other two mutant Caarites fed from the corpses of their fallen colleagues. They kept mostly to the deeper regions of the facility and stayed away from the main entrance area, leaving the bodies sited in that part of the base alone. In an attempt to preserve their food supply, the trio transferred many of the cadavers into a large room at the south side of the facility with a lower temperature than the rest of the base, so as to slow the bodies' rate of decay. Despite this effort to conserve their means of sustenance, over the subsequent days the mutants' food supply became increasingly diminished.
Two weeks after the release of the contagion within the base, a Believer strike team ventured to the facility to survey the results of the virus's dispersal. At the time of the cultists' arrival, U and G we present the base's concealed security office and there they soon encountered the Believers Aris and Osia who fled to the room seeking shelter after being attacked by Ko Bas. By speaking to them in Caarite and through use of the Force to influence their minds, the two Believers subdued U and G and brought the two mutants under their control. Aris and Osia then remained with the Caarites, unable to leave the base due to the facility's security system having deactivated, sealing the doors.
Three hours after the arrival of the Believers, the heroes of Cularin, a group of freelance agents that operated in the Cularin system, entered the base while investigating a distress signal. Around the same time, U bashed into an array of plugs in the security office and inadvertently brought the base's security system back on line, activating the front doors once more. Assisted by U and G, Aris and Osia ambushed the freelance agents near to the entrance to the base in an attempt to stop the operatives from leaving the facility with evidence of the anti-Caarite virus. In the ensuing fight, Osia commanded U and G to kill the agents and urged the mutant Caarites into battle. However, the mutants and their Believer masters were eventually defeated by the agents.
U was significantly altered by his exposure to the experimental virus released by the Believers within the Metatheran Cartel base on Tilnes and he became an enlarged and maddened individual who could not be reasoned with. He also developed immunity to further exposure to the contagion. Though of similar physical prowess to the mutant Caarite G, U was less strong than the similarly-mutated Cartel employee Ko Bas. U was multi-lingual, being able to read and write the languages Basic, Caarite and Filordian, though following his mutation he could comprehend only Caarite.
U was created by Morrie Mullins and appeared in Caaried Away, a 2003 Star Wars Legends roleplaying adventure that served as the first of the Metatheran Caution trilogy of RPGA's Living Force roleplaying campaign. In the adventure, the players roleplay as the heroes of Cularin and it is possible for the freelance agents to defeat or kill U when the Caarite fights them in the Cartel base. In the event that the player characters are incapacitated by the mutant Caarites and Believers, U and G depart the facility with Aris and Osia. The adventure also suggests that if the player characters are in a low roleplaying experience tier then either U or G should be omitted from the player characters' confrontation with the Believers. It is additionally suggested in Caaried Away that the player characters could take an interest in U and G from a research perspective and study the mutants to further the players' understanding of the viral contagion that transformed the Caarites.
