Vex system

Description

The Vex system was a part of the Inner Moddell systems area of the Moddell sector, one of the subsectors making up the Inner Zuma Region within the Outer Rim Territories' Zuma sector. Hyperlanes connected it to the Vasha system as well as the Firrerre system in the Sugai sector. The system contained two inhabited locations: the swampy planet Vex Major and the Vex Asteroid Belt.

History

Four decades prior to the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy, which began in 25 ABY, Vex Major was settled by a sect of the Order of the Ffib, the descendants of which insisted by the time of the reign of the New Republic that the planet should be called Far Gent. The Vex Asteroid Belt was colonized with the purpose of serving as a staging area for hyperspace scouting runs into the nearby Monsua Nebula. Given the particularly inhibiting interstellar anomalies along that nebulosity's fringes, however, none of those missions had been successful by the time of the Yuuzhan Vong War, which eventually led to the Vex system's unusual name.

Inhabitants

The Vex system was inhabited by Humans, with the population of Vex Major numbering 250,000 and the Vex Asteroid Belt having a population of three thousand. The natives of Vex Major were sturdy fishers who only engaged in basic trade with the New Republic. They were derogatorily referred to as "mudballers" by the population of the Vex Asteroid Belt, which consisted of freighter jocks, scouts, and prospectors and was in turn known as the Belters. The inhabitants of both locations imported foodstuffs from other star systems, with technology also being imported in the Vex Asteroid Belt.

Behind the scenes

The Vex system was introduced in the ninth issue of the Star Wars Gamer magazine on February 22, 2002. Within the magazine, the star system was mentioned in the source article "Endor and the Moddell Sector" as well as the roleplaying adventure "Race for the Tessent," both being written for use with Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Vex system in grid square H-16.
