Virgillia system

During the Galactic Civil War, the government of the Virgillia system was backed by the Galactic Empire. In turn, the organization known as the Virgillian Free Alignment was among the early allies of the Rebel Alliance, the Empire's enemy. The two Virgillian factions fought a bitter civil war in which the Free Alignment ultimately prevailed.

The star system became a member of the Empire's successor, the New Republic, and subsequently came to be one of the strongest supporters of the Resistance. By 34 ABY, the Free Virgillia-class Bunkerbuster, a type of corvette that was manufactured by the Corellian Engineering Corporation and armed with Virgillian-designed heavy plasma bombs and of which the Resistance vessel Ninka was one example, shared its name with the Virgillia system.

The Virgillia system was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon on a galactic map in Star Wars: The Force Awakens Beginner Game, a 2016 Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars Roleplaying boxed set. 2017's Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Incredible Cross-Sections, written by Jason Fry as part of the Incredible Cross-Sections reference book series, was the first source to identify Virgillia as a star system.

The Virgillia system was originally introduced in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in The Truce at Bakura Sourcebook, a 1996 sourcebook published for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. The system subsequently made its first appearance in The Clone Wars: Act on Instinct, a webcomic authored by Pablo Hidalgo and released on StarWars.com over the span of the 2009–2010 second season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series.
