Walea Timker was a human female who served as a combat engineer and corporal for the Alliance to Restore the Republic and was based in the Great Temple on the moon Yavin 4. In 1 BBY, General Davits Draven recommended her to Alliance leader Mon Mothma as a potential candidate for a strike team to raid the stronghold of partisan Saw Gerrera on the moon Jedha, although the raid ultimately did not happen as the criminal Jyn Erso successfully made contact with Gerrera for the Alliance.
After Erso later led an unsanctioned mission to the planet Scarif to steal the plans to the Galactic Empire's Death Star superweapon, Timker volunteered to join rebel forces that traveled to the Scarif system to aid Erso and her team. Timker traveled to Scarif in a Blue Squadron UT-60D U-wing starfighter/support craft that dropped the combat engineer off on one of the world's beaches. Timker died during the assault against the Imperials, but her sacrifice helped buy Erso enough time to successfully steal the plans.
Walea Timker was a human female who served in the Special Forces of the Alliance to Restore the Republic as a combat engineer, specialising in finding, improvising, and constructing temporary fortifications across a battlefield during military operations. A part of the Massassi Group of rebels, she was based out of the Great Temple on the moon Yavin 4 and had earned the rank of corporal by 1 BBY.
In that year, the Alliance sent the criminal Jyn Erso to make contact with the partisan leader Saw Gerrera in his stronghold on the moon Jedha to try and learn the location of her father, the Imperial scientist Galen Erso, from Bodhi Rook, an Imperial defector that Gerrera held prisoner. As a backup contingency for if Jyn should fail, General Davits Draven of Alliance Intelligence put together a list of eleven rebel soldiers, including Timker, around whom a rapid response strike team could be built for a raid on Gerrera's fortress. He sent the soldier's bios to to Mon Mothma, leader of the Alliance, in an intelligence update about the team, although Mothma had seen all of the bios before.
The team was ultimately unneeded, as Jyn made contact with Gerrera and then managed to locate her father, learning about a weakness that could be used to destroy the Empire's Death Star superweapon should the plans for the battle station be recovered. Jyn brough this information back to Yavin and proposed that the Alliance strike the Imperial facility on the planet Scarif where the Death Star plans were stored, but the idea was rejected by the Alliance's leadership. Determined to steal the plans anyway, Jyn gathered a group of rebel volunteers to travel with her on an unsanctioned mission to Scarif and Timker ran past her and the Intelligence agent Cassian Andor in one of the Great Temple's hangars as the pair prepared to depart.
Once fighting broke out between Jyn's team and the Imperials on Scarif, word got back to Yavin about the mission and the Alliance fleet was scrambled to travel to the Scarif system and support them. Timker and the other two remaining recommendations from Draven's list, Bistan and Rodma Maddel, volunteered to join the forces travelling to Scarif with Timker and Maddel making up part of the ground reinforcements that would be deployed to the planet's surface to support Jyn and her team.
The trio then traveled to Scarif in the UT-60D U-wing starfighter/support craft piloted by Laren Joma and Taslet Colb of Blue Squadron. Upon reaching the Scarif system, Blue Squadron almost immediatly raced for the planet's surface in order to make it through a closing Imperial Shield Gate that was the only route through Scarif's planetary shield. The ship carrying Timker was the only U-wing to make it through the gate before it closed, although a number of the squadron's T-65 X-wing starfighters also reached the surface.
After the U-wing and X-wings that had made it through destroyed several Imperial All Terrain Armored Cargo Transports from the air, General Antoc Merrick, leader of Blue Squadron, ordered Joma to drop off Timker and the other reinforcements on a beach near Jyn's forces while the X-wings protected the U-wing. Joma and Colb brought the ship down to hover just above the beach so that Timker and the other troops could disembark. As the passengers did so, some gave a battle cry in memory of Jedha, which had sustained great damage from the Death Star's superlaser.
Although only a fairly modest reinforcement, Timker and the others who arrived with her provided a much needed second wind to those already fighting on Jedha due to the losses they had suffered. Given the wreckage the rebels on Scarif had already caused before she arrived, Timker had plenty of structures to chose from for the fortifications she used to protect her comrades. Timker died during the assault against the Imperials, but her sacrifice was not in vain, as she and the other rebels on the beaches managed to buy enough time for Jyn and Andor to steal the Death Star plans and transmit them to the rebel fleet above before the Death Star fired upon Scarif, obliterating the area where Timker had fallen and killing all those still there, including Andor and Jyn. The plans then allowed the Alliance to destroy the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY.
Dravens communication to Mothma mentioning Timker was included in the collection of rebel documentation known as The Rebel Files where, after the files were obtained by the Resistance in 34 ABY, Reistance Lieutenant Caluan Ematt, formerly a member of the Alliance, added a note complimenting Draven's choices and mentioning how Timker and the others volunteered for Scarif.
Timker was an exceptionally skilled battlefield veteran who was accustomed to encountering the unexpected during military campaigns. She was inspired by the unsanctioned efforts of those that had gone to Scarif and was greatly pleased to take part in the mission to Scarif, as it would lead to the demise of the Death Star. Draven considered all of the candidates he picked for his potential strike team as either fearless or foolish enough to rush in against long odds, but also believed they possessed enough self-awareness to survive longer then the first minute of the mission. The corporal had light skin, brown hair, and gray eyes.
While on Yavin, Timker wore a light brown jacket over a black shirt with a dark brown scarf and black pants. She had a brown utility belt with carriage loops and carried a black blaster.
Walea Timker was created for the 2016 Anthology Series film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and was first identified in the accompanying reference book Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo.
