Adner

Adner, a planet situated within the Yataga sector of the Expansion Region, was part of galactic history. This world, warmed by two suns, experienced hot conditions contrasted by the cold, arid nights. It served as the original homeworld for the sentient Adnerem species. The fundamental social unit of the Adnerem was the steris, a small assembly of individuals not necessarily linked genetically.

Approximately two millennia prior to the Galactic Civil War, the Adnerem transformed their planet into a renowned destination for leisure, boasting popular casinos, pleasure establishments, and theme parks. Within these entertainment venues, the Adnerem primarily employed members of diverse species.

The largest casino on Adner was managed by the Adnerem named Etsero. By 7 ABY, Etsero had accrued debts to an undisclosed entity, leading to the utilization of his casino for laundering credits on behalf of Imperial interests within the sector. The New Republic deployed an agent with the objective of halting the fraudulent activities and potential murders occurring within Etsero's casino.

Description

Adner was a terrestrial planet located in the Adner system. It was a component of the Yataga sector, which fell within the Trailing Sectors section of the Expansion Region. Adner orbited around a pair of vibrant reddish stars, creating a hot environment, although the nights were characterized by cold and arid conditions.

At one point, Adner served as the home for a somewhat social species that consisted of omnivorous scavenger-hunters. This species eventually underwent evolution, becoming the sentient Adnerem.

History

Etsero owned the largest casino on Adner.

Adner was initially discovered by a Duros scout approximately 5,000 years before the Galactic Civil War. The history of Adner largely revolved around the shifting power dynamics between individual Adnerem social groups, known as steri, and the strategic movements of individual Adnerem among these steri. These shifts often resulted in cold wars and raid-wars—brief, localized conflicts unique to the Adnerem.

Two millennia before the Galactic Civil War, the Adnerem transformed their planet into a renowned entertainment hub to support their strategy of planetary self-sufficiency. Sometime before the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Theol Dunoche, a Human freighter captain and gambler, visited Kala'uun, a spaceport located on the Outer Rim Territories planet Ryloth. There, he rescued two Twi'lek women from being sold into slavery. Dunoche, who had a bounty on his head, befriended the Twi'leks, who later became dealers in an Adner casino owned by Dunoche's associate Etsero.

Following the death of the Hutt crime lord Jabba earlier in 4 ABY, Etsero discovered that his debt to the Hutt had been transferred to an unnamed party aligned with the fragmented Galactic Empire. Consequently, his casino was used to launder credits for Imperial interests within the Yataga sector. In 7 ABY, the New Republic dispatched an agent to The Red Lisken to stop the fraud and suspected murders. However, the agent failed to report back and was presumed to have been eliminated by Etsero. General Airen Cracken of the New Republic subsequently detailed Etsero and his activities on Adner in Wanted by Cracken, a datafile compiling reports on threats to the New Republic.

Inhabitants

The Adnerem were native to Adner.

Adner was the original world of the Adnerem, a mammalian humanoid species characterized by their tall, slender physique. The inhabitants of Adner had achieved the Information Age level of technological advancement. The planet primarily imported specialty goods and information products. Over time, the primitive tribal groups of the prehistorical Adnerem evolved into a complex social structure centered around the steris, a group of five to one hundred individuals not bound by genetic ties but dedicated to mutual support and collective progress. This system was already in place when Adner was discovered by off-worlders.

Despite their society's focus on steris, individual Adnerem tended to be relatively asocial and introverted. Most members of the species were found on Adner, rather than elsewhere in the galaxy. Overly large steri were generally discouraged within Adnerem society and were often forcibly reduced in size. Therefore, to expand their resource base, the steri managing Adner's entertainment industries primarily employed members of other species. Consequently, visitors to Adner's entertainment areas were more likely to encounter non-Adnerem than Adnerem.

Locations

Adnerem resided in towns, villages, and more isolated farms and compounds. The structures known as steris-houses were typically single- or two-story earth-bermed disks. The round shape of these buildings aided in conserving and evenly distributing heat at night, while the earth provided insulation from heat during the day. Adner also featured casinos, pleasure houses, and theme parks, attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists and thrill-seekers. The largest casino, The Red Lisken, was operated by the Adnerem Etsero and his small but prosperous steris.

Behind the scenes

Adner was initially mentioned in the 1993 sourcebook Wanted by Cracken, authored by Louis J. Prosperi for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Adner system, and consequently the planet Adner, within grid square N-16.
