Amaltanna, situated within the Kanz sector of the Outer Rim Territories, was a craggy planet illuminated by no less than three suns and orbited by a single moon.
Around 4000 BBY, numerous scouting missions conducted by the Galactic Republic led to the discovery of Amaltanna. Like much of the Kanz sector, the planet existed independently of any major galactic government. However, in 3970 BBY, while the Republic was preoccupied with the Mandalorian Wars, the Myrialites established the Argazdan Redoubt as a sovereign state and began to seize control of several neighboring planets. This expansion alarmed both Amaltanna and Lorrd, prompting the former to initiate the Amaltannan resistance, a rebel group intended to thwart potential invaders. In response to the Amaltannans and their Lorrdian allies, the Myrialites subjected the Lorrdians to slavery.
The Myrialites maintained control over the Kanz Sector for three centuries, with neither the Republic nor the Jedi Order successfully intervening. It wasn't until 3670 BBY that Jedi Master Mari-Elan Nora spearheaded a task force to liberate the sector from its oppressors. Consequently, the sector was granted a seat in the Galactic Senate, although its location was considered to be on the periphery of the Republic.
During the Clone Wars, Senator Nee Alavar of Lorrd represented the sector in the Senate. During this conflict, Baron Edi Wedd of Amaltanna established himself within the Impregnable fortress and pledged to provide resources to the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Outraged by Wedd's betrayal of the Republic, the local population formed a resistance movement to assault the Impregnable and apprehend the dictator. However, Wedd's security droids overwhelmed the resistance fighters, resulting in their defeat. Feeling secure with his battle droid army, Wedd was surprised when an attack force from the Grand Army of the Republic arrived to assist the defeated resistance. While both armies suffered heavy losses, Jedi General Bultar Swan survived the battle and infiltrated the fortress. Despite Wedd's traps and jeers, Swan reached his secure chamber and disabled the life-support system. Trapping Wedd inside his impenetrable palace, Swan abandoned the sentient to perish alone on the desolate planet.
